दिल्ली--- भारत में मुगल साम्राज्य की स्थापना बाबर ने 1526 में पानीपत के पहले युद्ध में दिल्ली सल्तनत के सुल्तान इब्राहिम लोदी को मारकर की थी. हालांकि बाबर ने दिल्ली को अपनी राजधानी नहीं बनाया था, बाबर के युग में आगरा मुगलों की राजधानी थी. दिल्ली को पहली बार मुगल बादशाह शाहजहां ने अपनी राजधानी बनाया था.

मुगल बादशाह बाबर का शासनकाल 1526 से 1530 तक का है. इस कालखंड में उसने अपने राज्य का विस्तार किया और कई युद्ध भी लड़े. लेकिन उसकी मृत्यु खराब स्वास्थ्य की वजह से हो गई और उसका बेटा हुमायूं मुगल शासक बना.

हुमायूं एक योद्धा नहीं था, उसकी रुचि युद्ध से ज्यादा कविताओं और शायरी में थी. जबकि उस वक्त मुगल साम्राज्य को विस्तार की जरूरत थी, क्योंकि यह साम्राज्य विस्तार ही पा रहा था. कमजोर सैन्य नेता की वजह से मुगल बादशाह हुमायूं को अपने ही सौतेले भाइयों की वजह से कई चुनौतियों का सामना करना पड़ा और 1540 में बाबर की सेना में सेनापति रहे शेरशाह सूरी ने उसे परास्त कर संपूर्ण उत्तर भारत में सूरी वर्ष की स्थापना की. हालांकि शेरशाह सूरी का शासनकाल महज 5 पांच साल का ही रहा, लेकिन इतने कम समय में भी उसने नगरीय व्यवस्था बनाने और सैन्य प्रशासन की स्थापना करने का अहम काम किया. 
1545 में शेरशाह सूरी को चंदेल राजा ने युद्ध में मार दिया. उसके उत्तराधिकारी बहुत सशक्त नहीं थी जिसकी वजह से 1555 में हुमायूं पुन: वापस आया और उसने एक बार फिर मुगल साम्राज्य को स्थापित किया और बादशाह बना. हुमायूं के निर्वासन के दौरान ही अकबर का जन्म हुआ था, जो सबसे लोकप्रिय मुगल शासक था. दोबारा शासन संभालने के बाद मुगल साम्राज्य को मजबूत करने के लिए हुमायूं ने कई कदम उठाए, लेकिन दुर्भाग्यवश महज एक वर्ष बाद ही सीढ़ियों से गिरने से उसकी मौत हो गई और उसका बेटा अकबर महज 13 वर्ष की आयु में शहंशाह बना. उसे बैरम खान का संरक्षण प्राप्त था, जो उसकी सेना का सेनापति और अकबर का खास था.

However, Babur did not make Delhi his capital; during his reign, Agra was the Mughal capital. It was Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan who first declared Delhi as the capital.

Humayun faced 15 years of exile
Humayun was not a warrior; he was more interested in poetry and literature than in warfare. However, the Mughal Empire at that time needed expansion, as it was still growing. Due to his weak military leadership, Humayun faced several challenges, including from his own stepbrothers. In 1540, Sher Shah Suri, who had been a military commander under Babur, defeated Humayun and established the Sur Empire over northern India.
Although Sher Shah Suri ruled for only five years, he made significant contributions, including establishing urban administration and a strong military system. In 1545, he was killed in battle by a Chandela king. His successors were not strong enough, and as a result, in 1555, Humayun returned, re-established the Mughal Empire, and regained the throne.
During Humayun’s exile, Akbar was born, who would later become the most popular Mughal emperor. After reclaiming the throne, Humayun took several steps to strengthen the empire. However, unfortunately, just a year later, he died after falling down a staircase. His son, Akbar, at just 13 years old, became emperor, under the guidance of Bairam Khan, who was his military commander and a close advisor
